Mouth to mouth

December 23, 2005

I saw a Rabbi once speak about the passage in our Bibles that says:

Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. (Exodus 33:11)

He said that the original text in Hebrew spoke of a much more intimate act. He said
it should read:

Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses mouth to mouth,…

He said that apparently the translators think it’s just weird that God would speak to us mouth to mouth, so they always translate it “face to face.” This rabbi thinks the true meaning is lost. It’s meant to be as intimate as it sounds. A kiss.

So while on the subject of intimacy, I recommend today’s reading of “Our Daily Bread”, “Knowing God Personally.”
