I really related to that. So many of us grew up with dads who put us on a performance basis and screwed up our image of our "heavenly Father".

Thank God He has made it His mission to "un-do" that thinking and learning.

I connected to your post of this song a lot. This view of God steals my intimacy with him. This Post is my more official thank you for your posting.

And that's one of the biggest "truths" there is. The fact that where TRUTH IS IT IS. And that's why I insist that if I have a truly receptive and sensitive heart, I can see truth in other religions. And I mean, I know I can't see Jesus, but I can see truthful ways in other religions.

Artists, many of them being sensible people, have a way at looking at these type of things that happen in life. Alanis does it all the time. She looks at life and then just gets really realistic about things. Good stuff comes from that process.

Thanks for sharing.

this is surely my story.... it brought me back to my young years. thankfully God loves to give second chances.... my dad is quite the GRAND"father" to my girls that he never was to me. i love to watch him with my girls. talk about bringing a tear to your eye. it is God's grace every time they're with him. and isn't it funny that an artist who is not labeled "christian" can have the TRUTH right there in her song? david and i just talked about this the other day. if truth is there, it's there.... whether you're "christian" or not. i love it. thanks for the link

Wow, dude - great post. Also made me think, as a parent, about the times when I expect too much from my kids in the way of behavior. It's so much more important for them to know they are loved and accepted than to act a certain way.

Thank God He is not like that, and that He truly loves and accepts us. Wow, what great love.

Beautiful song--made me cry. Strikes a chord for me both as a parent and as a child of God.

I respect Alanis for being honest in her lyrics. Now I'm inspired to download some more tunes.

Blessings.

I like Alanis a lot too. I was just being over cautious. You never know when someone won't like someone.

But yeah. She's a great composer to me. Many songs have such great lyrics.
